The Continuous friction tester (CFT) is used to measure the surface friction coefficient of highway or runway of airport.
Constructions
The whole system comprised the measuring unit, 3-wheel walking unit, road surface temperature sensor and non-contact environmental temperature sensor, specialized test software, and water-spray system and wheel-lift system can be optional equipped. The 3-wheel trailer is connected to the front tractor through a tow hook to quickly test the road friction coefficient.
Working principle
The included angle between CFT wheel and the driving direction is of 7.5°,
and when driving on a wet road at a certain speed, the lateral friction force
on the test wheel is compared with the load acting on the test wheel,
the ratio is called as the lateral force coefficient, and this method is called as the
deflection wheel trailer method.
Its advantage is it does not hinder the traffic during the measurement, and
can be continuously and quickly measured. High-grade highways often uses the CFT
to evaluate the anti-skid performance of the road surface.
